The United States Space Force is here. Well, it’s at least on Netflix.

The streaming service released the first trailer for “Space Force,” a new comedy starring Steve Carell about an astronomical division of the armed forces. “Space” finds Carell reuniting with “The Office” creator Greg Daniels in a riff on the Space Force, which President Donald Trump’s administration announced in 2018 would be a new division of the U.S. armed forces.

And while Carell isn’t just playing Michael Scott in space (we would enjoy that, though), he does play the slightly hapless General Naird, who is tasked with creating a Space Force from the ground up that he’s not totally qualified to be manning. But don’t worry, there’s a cute dog in space, so “mission accomplished.”

“It was always my dream to start something from the ground up,” Carell’s Naird says in the trailer. “But space is hard.”

The series co-stars Lisa Kudrox, John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz (“Parks and Recreation”) and Noah Emmerich (“The Americans”) and comedian Fred Willard, who died Friday at 86. Kudrow will play Carell’s wife Maggie, “who has sublimated parts of herself to her husband’s career for two decades. But as he takes on his biggest challenge, she is growing in a different direction.”

According to the official plot description, the series follows “a decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark R. Naird is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force.”

“Space Force” blasts onto Netflix on May 29.
